Abstract | The presence of thorium in the peculiar A star HR 465 is confirmed. It is noted that a moderate spectral feature at 4019.12 A in HR 465 was previously attributed to Th II and that measurements of the wavelengths in the spectra of some 50 Ap and Am stars showed that only HR 465 exhibited that line. The thorium abundance in this star is estimated, and the Th/U ratio is examined. It is concluded that both thorium and uranium were produced by nucleosynthesis in HR 465 at some time more recently than the formation of the oldest globular clusters. |
