| Abstract | This article presents a perspective on the overall process of knowledge discovery from databases. Specifically, we provide an overview of why discovering useful knowledge from industrial data is important, who benefits from the newly acquired knowledge, and how this can be achieved. The steps taken in the knowledge discovery are briefly presented and a few methods are discussed. In particular, we explain data preprocessing, use of machine learning techniques to analyze industrial data, and the process of summarizing the results generated through this data analysis. Finally, we give an example of applying knowledge discovery techniques to data collected from anaerospace application. Some challenging remarks are given at the end. |
