Abstract | At the request of Sandwell Inc., uniaxial compressive tests were conducted in the field on ice collected from the spray ice bridge across the Mackenzie River at Ft. Providence, N.W.T., in March 1995. The principle object was to correlate these compressive test results with borehole jack measurements made at the same time, and to see how the strength of the spray ice compared with the strength of the natural river ice beneath. It was felt that it was important to do the present work in the field, so that the ice tested in compression was as close as possible to being identical to the ice tested by the borehold jack. |
