AbstractThe IRC Acoustics Laboratory has completed the measurement phase of a study of airborne and impact sound transmission through typical floor constructions used in Canadian housing. This report presents the sound transmission class (STC) and impact insulation class (IIC) ratings for all the floors in the project. Some of the specimens where chosen by IRC for technical reasons but the majority of the specimens were approved as part of a structural series established collectively by the consortium. A second IRC report will present the measurements in one-third octave bands. Including the one-third octave band data in this report would have increased the complexity beyond that needed for building code purposes.
