Résumé | We demonstrate that in triangular graphene quantum dots with zigzag edges (TGQD), robust optical transitions occur simultaneously in the THz, visible and UV spectral ranges. Optical properties are determined by strong electron-electron and excitonic interactions. Using a combination of tight-binding, Hartree-Fock and configuration interaction approaches, we show that charging of TGQDs by an external gate drastically modifies both the optical and magnetic properties. It is thus possible to design a gate and size tunable graphene quantum dot with desired electronic, magnetic and optical properties for opto-electronic and photo-voltaic applications. © 2011 American Institute of Physics. |
