Résumé | A knowledge of the extent to which the water content of soils may be frozen at any given temperature below the freezing point of water under normal conditions turns out to be of considerable importance in the development of frozen ground technology. Strength properties of frozen ground may well be affected, at least within certain ranges of conditions, by the unfrozen water content. Also, in view of the relatively large amounts of heat involved in the latent heat of fusion, insufficient information about the proportion of the water content which is frozen at any given condition can lead to serious errors in heat transfer and heat balance calculations for the ground. |
