Résumé | Modification of epoxy resins using nanoparticles offers the potential to enhance mechanical, electrical and other properties. Most studies in this area of research have focused exclusively on the development of nano-modified the epoxies themselves. However, the enhancements reported in polymer mechanical and electrical properties from the addition of nanoparticles do not necessarily translate well into their laminate composites. Shear flows encountered during the integration of resin into fibre reinforcement have been identified as one source of this problem as they can considerably influence the quality of the dispersion and orientation of the nanoparticles within the matrix. Work on property enhancement of nano-modified laminate composites has recently become a subject of increasing interest, with the objective of effectively translating the observed resin nano-enhancement. In this work, the influence of the incorporation of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (SWCNT) on electrical and mechanical properties of an aerospace-grade epoxy (Araldite MY0510) and its glass fibre laminate composites is studied. |
