Abstract
The pore system of hydrated cement paste is very complex and changes with the type of drying. Solid volume, helium inflow, and length change measurements over different relative humidity conditions permit surface area and hydraulic radii to be measured. It is shown that the system is composed of (1) gross pores into which nitrogen methanol and other fluids can readily enter, and (2) interlayer spaces that separate layers and are only about the diameter of one water molecule apart.
