Abstract | The properties of repointing mortars for older masonry assemblies as well as their on-site installationpractices are somewhat different than those typically used in modern masonry construction. Inappropriaterepointing materials and execution practices can result in permanent damage to older masonry assemblies, affecting their aesthetics qualities, heritage value, performance and service life. This paper providesarchitects, engineers, masons, contractors, property owners and managers with a better appreciation of keyconsiderations for durable repointing mortars that contribute to the preservation of Canada's oldermasonry buildings. |
