Abstract
Parameters that determine the fire resistance of protected and unprotected structural steel elements are described and analytical methods for determining fire endurance reviewed. The influence of fire severity on the structural behaviour of load-carrying elements is examined with a view to a more realistic interpretation of structural fire endurance in building design.
