AbstractThis paper presents the case study of a nordic school where the provision of comfort relies on bothpassive and active systems. Hybrid ventilation system is manually controlled and integrates natural anddisplacement ventilation, which is the focus of this paper. Environmental performance, teachers? knowledge and interaction with controls, and pupils? satisfaction were assessed through experimental measurements and questionnaires. Field assessment was carried out in heating seasons. Displacement ventilation performs better than expected, but anomalies were reported concerning the fresh air supply. Performance metrics are coherent with pupils? satisfaction votes. Teachers have a ?general? idea of the building?s heating and cooling systems. On the other hand, they have a ?minimal? understanding of how ventilation works, but they have shown great interest in understanding how it works and how to improve the environmental conditions if the need arise. The practical implications of the findings on building operation are discussed and future research is suggested.
