Abstract | This report presents the analysis of data for an extensive field test program conducted on Hobson's Choice Ice Island in 1990. The objective was to gain insight into the nature of contact during ice-structure interaction and the role of ice and structure shapes in determining local pressures and global loads. The work involved extensive analysis of video and transducer data. The data shows evidence of local high pressure regions, the so-called "hot spot" phenomenon, as observed in small scale indentation tests. Furthermore, a dependence of nominal pressures on the ice-structure contact conditions is also evident. |
