AbstractOnly glazing assemblies with tempered or heat-strengthened glass are considered here. Such glass has only minimal passive fire protection. But when a dedicated automatic sprinkler system applies a film of water on it, it remains intact for more than an hour, provided the sprinkler is triggered before the temperature at which such glass breaks is reached. Sprinklers can be mounted at the top of a window or to the ceiling close to a window. Their proper placement required many considerations in the research, among them mullion depth and window width. Even more with multiple-sprinkler systems.
