AbstractExperimental studies were carried out to determine the fire resistance of circular and square hollow structural steel columns filled with plain concrete. The results of 44 fullscale fire resistance tests are described. The study variables included the column dimensions, steel section wall thickness, concrete strength, type of concrete aggregate, effective length, load intensity and eccentricity. These studies were conducted as part of a research program aimed at developing methods capable of predicting the fire resistance of concrete-filled hollow steel columns.
