AbstractIn a recent report it has been shown that asphalt shingles are not dimensionally stable when exposed to conditions of wetting and drying. The dimensional instability of wood caused by changes in moisture content is well known. From the existing information about shingles and boards, it was possible to analyse the expected movements of an assembly of boards and shingles under extreme conditions. It was of interest to demonstrate experimentally whether the predicted movements in the boards and the shingles did occur. The following experiments were designed to provide this information.
