| Abstract | The Offshore Engineering Basin is a large marine testing facility situated at IMD/NRC. For a marine model to be tested in the OEB, careful preparation has to be taken to ensure the validity of the analysis. To make certain an accurate marine scenario is created, skilled technicians have to utilize testing and acquisition equipment correctly. This equipment, much developed within IMD, is the backbone of each experiment and much care has to be taken when employing it. If one component is improperly functioning, a whole test could be worthless. Developing methods of correctly utilizing this equipment is an ongoing interest at IMD. This report deals with the design process of a device to be used in the OEB for correctly positioning wave probes and acquisition equipment. The design of a such a device originally appears to have a simple solution but is often a detailed process. When a solution is needed, many aspects surrounding the design need careful consideration, but often a process of elimination is used. After a design has been successfully created and all features analysed ensuring the requirements are met, it has to be capable of being fabricated. Knowledge of fabrication techniques during the design process helps a designer develop a sound design. The resulting design was created and documented for easy future fabrication. |
