Abstract | This paper examines the use of ontology as a mechanism for application integration and knowledge sharing in collaborative product design. It provides a comprehensive literature review and reviews concepts, classification, differences compared to other related technologies, and a discussion of the suitability of ontology. The paper compares several ontology authoring languages, ontology building methodologies and tools, reviews some recent work on applying ontology to collaborative design, and outlines further research requirements. |
