Abstract | The purpose of this report is to outline the background of the present situation and to consider some of the main improvements required in the nailing to bring the strength of the nailed connections closer to the degree of refinement reached in "span tables". This report presents a series of "nailing tables", based on the calculations and experimental checks, which would bring the strength of rafter and joist roof frames up to the strength presently required in trusses. This report concludes with some comments on the difficult question of what margin of safety should be required in conventional house roofs. |
