Abstract
A knowledge based system (KBS) was developed to diagnose problems with windows in buildings and suggest solutions to these problems. This system is based on a shell developed at IRC, and contains a knowledge base polled from three experts. The rule base contains about 200 rules mostly for diagnosing moisture related problems. The shell supports rule editing and knowledge base maintenance. This system is designed to support consultants in their diagnosis of building problems. The KBS is described, its development outlined, and conclusions are drawn as to the advantages and pitfalls of KBS development for diagnosing building problems.
