AbstractThe nature of adherence in hydrated cement is examined and discussed with reference to the role of adsorbed water and interlayer water in the structure. Young's modulus and microhardness values are used to compare the structural characteristics of various cements under a number of conditions, particularly the effect of "d-drying" on hydrated cement. The technique of cold compaction for the preparation of model specimens of porous materials is also examined.
