AbstractThe materials of which a house is made may normally contain 2500 pounds of water. The air contains in the house at any one time will amount to about 750 pounds of which about 5 pounds will be water vapour. The maintenance of this relatively small water content of the air at the proper level can be very important since it may determine not only the level of moisture content of furnishings, and of much of the house structure itself, but also rates of evaporation or of moisture uptake which may affect people as well as materials. Excessive moisture levels may lead to rapid deterioration or other faulty service from many materials.
