AbstractTo better predict sealant performance, a computer-controlled, automated, artificial ageing test apparatus was developed to better simulate actual exposure and deterioration. Three kinds of sealant product were used: a 1-component modified silicone; a 2-component modified silicone; and a 1-component polyurethane. An outdoor exposure test apparatus was used to collect data over one year that included joint movement and specific weathering factors such as temperature of the sealant, and exposure to solar radiation and rainfall. The data acquired from the outdoor test was simultaneously transferred to the artificial ageing test apparatus.
