Abstract | A field test of a flame-flicker forest fire detector on a very hot and bright day gave an undesirably high level of false responses. It is believed that this phenomenon resulted from refraction, by thermal air currents, of solar radiation reflected from the target area. The scope of this report is confined to reporting an attempt to produce a simple device capable of detecting forest fires; no review is made of possible alternative techniques. |
