AbstractThis report gives a brief introduction to network protocols, an overview of the IOT computer network, detailed instructions on how to perform a network survey and the results of the author?s tests on the IOT network. The most peculear of these results are the periodic spikes in latency exibited by a switch located in telecommunications closet six. This behaviour was not repeatable in any other switches. Speculation points to virtual local area networks (VLANs) or hardware issues as possible causes. It currently does not seem to be affecting network performance in any noticable way. It is recommended that this switch should be checked periodically to discover if the anomaly develops any further.
