AbstractWhen navigating in ice, ducted propellers are prone to blockage by submerged pieces of ice. As a consequence of the ice obstruction, the propeller must operate in an unsteady flow regime where the blades are subject to high cyclic hydrodynamic loading and cavitation, as well as direction contact between the propeller's blades and ice. In this paper, the ducted controllable pitch propeller of the MV Robert LeMeur has been examined.
