AbstractA method has been developed for investigating the influence of certain factors on the penetration of moisture through brick masonry. A small panel, made of five bricks with mortar joints, is constructed under controlled conditions and subjected to a rain test. In this test an air pressure difference is maintained across the panel to simulate wind force, and at the same time water is sprayed on the surface to form a continuous film. The test conditions therefore represent heavy wind-driven rain. The length of time for moisture to traverse the panel and the subsequent rate of leakage of moisture through it are measured during the test.
