AbstractThe programming language STRUCTURED FORTRAN is described. The language permits the benefits of "structured programming" and "top-down program development" to be realized in the FORTRAN environment. This language adds ALGOL-like structures (e.g. IF-ELSE, DO WHILE, DO UNTIL, DO CASE, PERFORM) to standard FORTRAN. The language is implemented using a translator which converts to standard FORTRAN for compiling in the normal manner. Since the translator is itself a FORTRAN program, programs written in STRUCTURED FORTRAN are portable to any computer which supports FORTRAN. STRUCTURED FORTRAN language statements are defined with examples to show how they are used. The manner in which the translator converts each STRUCTURED FORTRAN construct to normal FORTRAN is given in an Appendix.
