Abstract | Whole assemblies were tested to assess the effects of various combinations and permutations of materials and their configuration on fire performance. Does the type, density and thickness of gypsum board matter? What role does insulation play in all this? Well, one of the startling insights gained is that when rock fibre was tightly packed between the studs in non-load-bearing-walls, it provides a 60% better fire rating than when it was loosely installed. Such seemingly insignificant detail for such great benefit. A pre-requisite for the assemblies tested was that they meet STC (acoustical) criteria. |
