Abstract | The model was a seven-storey flat slab structure, symmetrical about both axis, made of 4000 p.s.i. concrete reinforced with steel wire. Static testing was carried out by transverse, longitudinal and torsional loading; fundamental frequencies by dynamic testing were determined for longitudinal, transverse and torsional directions of vibration. Close agreement was found between observed dynamic behaviour and dynamic properties computed from measured flexibility matrices. The static flexibility matrices were not found to be completely symmetrical. This was ascribed mainly to progressive cracking of the model as the various floors were loaded. Limitations of the test methods are discussed. |
