Abstract | The report is divided into three main sections, the first of which (B) gives a general account of the nature of the frost problems. The second section (C), which has been written especially for the benefit of technicians charged with exploratory work for large-scale building projects, deals with preliminary investigations and lays down a number of fundamental rules. The third section (D) may be read independent of the second section. It contains some simple rules for designing foundations for temporary or small permanent buildings for which it may be impossible to carry out extensive preliminary investigations and planning in each individual case. |
