Abstract | This Note describes basic equations that can be used in life- cycle costing. The Appendix provides examples of their application to practical situations. Particular attention is given to the use of the internal rate of return technique in making life-cycle calculations. It emphasizes that the prices of different inputs can, along with the rate of inflation, vary over time, and shows how these variations can be taken into account. It also differentiates between the use of current and constant dollars and shows why the use of current dollars is preferred for construction projects. |
