Abstract | In a recent publication, Thomson et al. presented a novel variation of 2D-LOSA which uses a diffuse light source and allows highly sensitive attenuation measurements. With a minor change to the detection system of this diagnostic, it is possible to achieve one-dimensional, spectrally resolved line-of-sight attenuation measurements. This diagnostic, termed Spec-LOSA, provides a valuable tool to evaluate the variability of soot extinction coefficients and in some cases the spectral variation of the soot refractive index absorption function with wavelength of soot aerosols. In this paper, the Spec-LOSA diagnostic is presented and then demonstrated through measurements at various heights in a Gulder ethylene/air co-annular non-premixed flame. |
