Abstract
This article outlines a "modified" bin method for predicting heating energy requirements of residential air-source heat pumps. An illustrative example compares the proposed method with that recommended by ASHRAE. The results are then compared with the actual monitored heating energy requirement of a house identical to the one considered in the example. The "modified" bin method prediction is much closer to the observed consumption than the result of the standard ASHRAE method.
