AbstractShear strength is an important ice property that needs to be determined for many experiments carried out in the ice tank. Due to flaws in the original method of determining the shear strength, a new method was developed to increase the accuracy of the values. The In-Situ Shear Tester if the resulting apparatus. The In-Situ Shear Tester gives more accurate shear values than the Chatillon Shear tester, but is hard to install. It should be modified slightly to ease installation, and adopted as the standard way of determinging shear strength of ice in the ice tank.
