AbstractMy work term project at the Institute for Marine Dynamics focused on using a computer simulation package to estimate the hydrodynamic coefficients on a submarine and towfish, which are two models that were tested here recently. This package is called PMARC which stands for Panel Method from the NASA Ames Research Center. The majority of my time was spent on the manipulation of parameters in PMARC to create the necessary geometries. These geometries were analyzed to ensure it was correct by examining information in the output file and making sure it made sense. This report serves as a user manual because I have outlined how to overcome problems that could be encountered when using this program and also how to effectively use the PMARC code to obtain the appropriate geometries. A determination of the hydrodynamic coefficients was not completed. However, the process used to determine these values is outlined. I could not finish the project I set out to do in its entirety. To master the program of PMARC and create the two very complex geometries - the submarine and towfish requires more time then was allotted. Thus, PMARC is a useful program in estimating the hydrodynamic coefficients of underwater vehicles once it is known exactly and thoroughly how to use the program.
