AbstractThe Commerce Court Tower was the subject of wind tunnel tests in 1969 and in 1977, and the building itself was monitored for various wind effects from 1973 until 1980. The first comparisons of mean and fluctuating pressure coefficients were presented in 1975 and a preliminary assessment of both wind tunnel and building code predictions of tip displacement appeared in 1978. The next comparison, presented in 1979, exposed some of the limitations of field studies for the evaluation of mean pressure coefficients as well as the difficulties of specifying peak pressures, whether in the field or the wind tunnel. This report reviews and illustrates the main findings of the earlier comparisons and supplements them with new examples comparing the dynamic behaviour of the building and aeroelastic model.
