Abstract
2,3,4,6,7-Penta-O-methyl-d-glycero-l-manno-heptose was synthesized by methylationa of d-glycero-l-manno-heptose followed by hydrolysis. 2,4,6,7-Tetra-O-methyl-d-glycero-l-manno-heptose was synthesized by using the following sequence of reactions: 2-O-benzyl-d-galactose (7) → 3-O-benzyl-1-deoxy-1-nitro-d-glycero-l-manno-heptitol (8) → 3-O-benzyl-d-glycero-l-manno-heptose (9) → methyl 3-O-benzyl-2,4,6,7-tetra-O-methyl-d-glycero-l-manno-heptoside (10) → methyl 2,4,6,7-tetra-O-methyl-d-glycero-l-manno-heptoside (11) → 2,4,6,7-tetra-O-methyl-d-glycero-l-manno-heptose (12).
