AbstractConventional fire protection practices are examined in the light of recent advances in fire science, and fallacies of the present fire protection philosophy are pointed out. The author shows that the cost of fire protection can be reduced by various measures such as choice of size of windows. The author also describes two new techniques to prevent the spread of fire to different compartments in a building. To be really effective the problem of fire security must be considered from the beginning of architectural design.
