Abstract(Figure Presented) Let's see what comes out: An extracellular enzymatic gene-reporter system for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) yields strong, reversible contrast changes in response to the expression of secreted alkaline phosphatase (SEAP; see picture). Products of SEAP activity were specifically detected using an iron-oxide-based sensor. The contrast agent is not used up by the enzyme, cell delivery is not required, and multimodal detection is possible.
