Abstract | One of the main difficulties in obtaining the energy balance at an ice or snow surface is to calculate the convective or evaporative heat loss from meteorological observations. To simplify the calculations, a relationship between evaporation and convection is often assumed. The purposes of this present study are to review previous investigations of this relationship between convective and evaporative heat losses with particular reference to ice surfaces, to present results from some preliminary experiments designed to verify these relationships, and to suggest experiments which might be useful for further checking. |
