Abstract | This report represents the beginning of a program of measurements of sound insulation in typical apartment buildings. The five buildings reported on here have essentially the same floor and similar wall structures: the floor consisted of open-web steel joists supporting a 2 1/2-in. concrete floor slab, with lath and plaster below; the walls were of heavy masonry (8-in. dense-aggregate concrete blocks or heavier). Finish floors were parquet or vinyl-asbestos tiles cemented to the concrete.Emphasis in this study was on vertical transmission through the floors (both airborne and impact sound). |
