Journal titleBuilding Note
AbstractVermiculite is a hydrated complex aluminum-iron-magnesium silicate, foliated in nature. It is the alteration product of biotite, phlogopite and other varieties of mica, and its composition varies widely depending on the original mineral and degree of alteration. The most unusual characteristic of vermiculite is the extraordinary expansion which takes place when it is heated, resulting in a material which possesses excellent heat and sound insulation properties.
