AbstractThis paper proposes an approach for anticipating breakage in individual pipes within so-called ?homogeneous' groups of water mains. It is based on the assumption that individual pipe breaks occur as a non-homogeneous Poisson process and allows the consideration of dynamic factors. The paper provides the theoretical background for the model, discusses issues related to the use of specific covariates, and provides a case study to illustrate the model application.
