AbstractMagnesium oxychloride cement paste was impregnated with sulfur and exposed to water. Microhardness and modulus of elasticity of unimpregnated and impregnated samples were determined at different times of exposure. Impregnated samples had decreases in strength which were more gradual than those of the unimpregnated samples; these samples, when reimpregnated, showed better durability to subsequent exposure to water. Of all the samples, those initially exposed to water and subsequently impregnated appear to have the best mechanical properties. Modulus of elasticity of sulfurimpregnated paste can be determined using a simple mixing rule. On exposure to water, oxychloride cement paste converts mainly to Mg(OH)[2].
