AbstractThis paper examines the performance requirements to consider in the process of window selection. These include: windows as energy filters for the space (light transmission and access to view, thermal performance and sound transmission) -- windows as part of the building envelope ( structural strength, fire performance, airtightness and water penetration) -- windows as a building component ( operation and natural ventilation strategies, security, long term durability).
