AbstractA study on the behaviour of carbon steels at elevated temperatures yields the basis for a method by which the deflection and point of collapse of beams and floors can be calculated if the temperature history of the steel parts is known. The Robertson-Ryan criteria and the 1000º F criterion of ASTM E119 are examined.
