Abstract | This report describes one of many experiments that fall under the Safer Fishing Vessel Seakeeping (SFVS) project. This project was designed to investigate the full-scale motions of five fishing vessels by testing them at sea. These motions were recorded and are to be used to validate physical and numerical simulations and to obtain more information on motion induced interruptions (MII), sudden motions caused by waves that prevent work and often cause injury to workers. The focus of this report is on the 1:11 ¼ model of the 65 ft fishing vessel CCGA Miss Jacqueline IV (Figure 1) and its physical simulation in the Institute for Ocean Technology's (IOT's) Offshore Engineering Basin (OEB). This simulation was conducted in October-December of 2006. This document describes in detail the entire process of model testing, including fabrication, testing and data analysis. The results of the first round of testing are compared to the full scale sea trial data and a detailed discussion of sources of error is presented. Recommendations are made for the improvement of the correlation of future experiments. |
