Abstract
In general, the performance theory for pipes buried in the ground has been developed for idealized conditions and has not had extensive experimental verification, particularly for long-term operation. This report presents an analysis of the results obtained from numerous runs of a heat pump over a period of two years. The results indicate that theory, neglecting freezing and moisture migration effects, can be used with fair accuracy to predict pipe or refrigerant temperatures and heat extraction rates. The ground coil was selected as the heat source for the study.
