AbstractThis paper evaluates relationships between four parameters that govern the time to corrosion initiation of reinforced concrete in chloride-laden environments ? the concrete chloride diffusion coefficient, the steel reinforcement chloride threshold, the concrete cover depth, and the surface chloride exposure condition. A deterministic diffusion-based corrosion initiation model was used to determine numerical, nonlinear relationships between pairs of parameters based on a deterministic, diffusion-based, corrosion initiation model. The relationships can be used to determine the most appropriate combination of the parameter values for an effective design.
