Abstract
Research on fire toxicity undertaken by the Fire Research Section of the National Research Council of Canada is presented. Work to date has been directed towards quantitative analysis of decomposition products and subsequent assessment of toxicity. The fire toxicity concept proposed by the authors provides indications of the relative importance of toxic species produced from a given material, and the propensity of materials for generating toxic decomposition products.
